We’ve all been there: staring at our overflowing makeup bag or skincare shelf and wondering, "How did I get so much stuff?" Deciding what stays and what goes can be tough, especially with so many amazing products out there.
We wanted to get to the bottom of this beauty mystery, so we asked our community of beauty lovers to share their secrets. From how they organize their stash to what makes a product truly "shelf-worthy," the answers were both surprising and super relatable.

How Many Products Do You Have?
First, we asked about the size of everyone's collection. If you feel like you have a ton, you're in good company!
A little over a third of people (37%) have between 5 and 10 products.
Another 22% have 11 to 20 products.
A surprising 20% have honestly lost count!
Only a small number of people (7%) keep it minimal with fewer than 5 products.
What Makes a Product a "Front-Row" Star?
What makes a product a daily essential? It's all about what works!
Proven results are the biggest factor, with a whopping 47% saying this is the top reason.
Products that are quick to apply or multi-use come in next at 22%.
Interestingly, things like scent and packaging had zero impact on a product's "front-row" status.
When a Product Doesn't Make the Cut
What happens to a product you no longer use? Instead of just tossing it, most people pass it on!
More than half of our "Beauty Buddies" (54%) give unused products to friends or family.
Another 16% find a new purpose for them (like using a face cream on their body).
Only 6% throw products away if they don't work.
