We Asked the Beauty Buddy Squad: What Really Makes theM Click "Add to Cart"

We all know the thrill of a good sample. That little sachet tucked into your order, the mini sitting pretty in a gift bag, it's basically a beauty dare. Try me. Fall in love. Buy me. And according to our latest Beauty Buddy community survey, most of us are absolutely accepting that dare.

We asked the Beauty Buddy Squad about their sampling habits, how often they try new products, what convinces them to buy, and what makes them walk away, and the results are fascinating. Spoiler: this community is not easily impressed.

Results First. Always.

Let's get straight to it: 76% of the Beauty Buddy Squad say visible results are the number one reason they decide to buy after sampling. Not the packaging. Not the price. Not even a glowing TikTok review. If a product doesn't deliver, it doesn't get a second chance.

Coming in a close second? The sensory experience, 74% say a product needs to feel good to use. Because life is too short for sticky serums and chalky foundations, right?

Price and social proof do play a role (38% and 32% respectively), but they're firmly in supporting-act territory. This community leads with results and follows their skin.

The Squad Samples… A Lot

Here's something that might surprise beauty brands: 84% of the Beauty Buddy Squad sample new products often or very often. This isn't a group of occasional dabblers. These are committed beauty explorers who approach every sample with genuine curiosity, and genuine standards.

And they're thorough. Only 3% make up their minds after a single use. The majority, 36%, give a product 2–3 tries before deciding, while another 30% put in a full 4–7 uses. Basically, they're giving every product a fair shot. They just expect it to earn its place in the lineup.

Sampling Actually Works

A massive 96% of the Beauty Buddy Squad have repurchased a product they first tried as a sample. And 84% say they're very or extremely likely to buy after a positive sample experience. That's not a maybe. That's a beauty community ready and willing to spend, when the product earns it.

Interestingly, 52% say receiving a product for free actually makes them feel more positive about it, while 36% say it makes no difference. Only 7% approach freebies with extra skepticism. The Beauty Buddy Squad isn't cynical, they're just results-driven.

The Research Rabbit Hole Is Real

After trying a sample, 94% of the Beauty Buddy Squad actively research the product before deciding whether to buy. And they're doing their homework across multiple platforms:

  • 69% head to review platforms

  • 66% visit the brand's website

  • 62% Google it

  • 49% check TikTok or Reels

  • 26% ask friends or family

And when it comes to other people's reviews? They matter. 66% of the community say reviews are very or extremely important to their post-sample purchase decision. Peer opinions carry serious weight — which is exactly why the Beauty Buddy Squad's reviews in the app are such a valuable resource.
